2020 Pemberton Abingdon lodge review

Pemberton Leisure Homes is one of the longest established manufacturers of holiday caravans in Europe and this shows in their 2020 line-up.

The Pemberton brand has, like many in this industry, had its ups and downs. The 50s and 60s saw massive growth with two takeover’s – Cresta and Dovedale caravans. By the late 70s, they acquired local tourer maker Knowsley Caravans. By 1980 the big downturn saw Pemberton hit the buffers, a management takeover saw the company re-named Pemberton–Woodhouse and instead of mass production they turned to more bespoke manufacturing. By the late 1980s, Pemberton was back with quality build and new models.

The company now produces holiday lodges and park homes too. Here we take a look at the new Pemberton Abingdon single lodge, first shown at the Stoneleigh Park Home show in summer 2019.

The 36ft x 12ft two bedroomed Pemberton Abingdon has evolved from the holiday caravan Abingdon range. The Abingdon lodge takes its looks from the static caravan version and comes with front French doors, which allows access to the lounge area.

Here you’ll find a blend of traditional and contemporary colour schemes, plus there’s a fireplace as the main feature and three classic reclining chairs plus two-seater sofa.

There’ plenty of shelving and cupboard storage and sliding doors allow for the lounge to be cut off from the kitchen and dining area.

Slide back those doors though and you can create a more open plan feel with the kitchen and four-seat dining table opposite.

The kitchen has plenty of cupboard storage and acres of worktop too.

There’s a fridge/freezer, plus four burner stove and oven – and a microwave is fitted too.

A dishwasher and dryer are on the options list – but the plumbing is installed.

Go through to the back of the Pemberton Abingdon and you pass the family bathroom on the right. This room can be accessed from the master bedroom, which feels impressive in size and has a large headboard, plus a dressing table and large double wardrobe. The large end window adds to the feeling of space here too.

The bathroom comes with shower and hand basin, plus loo; it’s spacious and will be used by all the family.

The twin bedroom opposite (though our review model had a single bed) is typical in design, with wardrobe and small centre storage cupboard, plus overhead shelves and two wall cupboards.

Using it as a single room it offers lots of floor area which some owners may just order minus one of the single beds.

Verdict: A holiday lodge that is practical and yet also stylish, the Pemberton Abingdon fits nicely into their portfolio. The lounge area is cosy, especially with the partition door from the kitchen area – a feature that’s becoming more popular. The master bedroom also is a great feature and comes complete with a 5 ft bed.

Plus points: Cosy and colourful lounge area, which can be separated from the kitchen/dining area

Minus points: Some may not like the lack of a dedicated loo in the master bedroom, dishwasher not standard.

In a nutshell: Good overall build, plus practical design, the Pemberton Abingdon lodge is one to put on your shortlist.
