The Tingdene Overstone is an extraordinary lodge and park home, with features and styling that make it incomparable to any other units in the market.
Among them are its porthole windows, its framed glass divides between the lounge and the dining-kitchen area – and its designated ‘reading area’.
This is open-plan living taken to the extreme of modernity, with wow-factor styling, the boldest colours in any park home and, everywhere, a feeling that you are in a super show home.
It’s a holiday or park home that embraces multiple aspects of design – modernism, industrialism and even introducing a maritime theme in the form of the porthole windows.
From the dark indigo kitchen, the starburst light over the dining table gives the impression of illuminating the entire room. The glass panel partitions do indeed separate the areas off and at the same time amplify the feeling of gargantuan spaciousness.
The interesting thing about the Overstone is that, while Tingdene most definitely conceived it as a residential park home, it has an over-arching leisure vibe and is now available as a holiday lodge. That’s partly down to the pseudo open plan layout of the lounge and dining kitchen and partly down to the vibrant, bold colours that inject a swish Mediterranean apartment feel. You’d always feel that you are on holiday if you live in a Tingdene Overstone!
So, to the details…
The kitchen’s matt indigo cabinetry has neat handles and knobs that imitate antique brass. The surface is white ‘marble’ with pale grey veins and the wall behind the hob continues the pale grey theme in a series of subtle geometric shapes in the tiles. The sink is set into the island unit; four bar stools make sure it’s a breakfast area with space for everyone. Both surface and storage space is plentiful. The necessities are nicely integrated – a washing machine, a 70/30 fridge/freezer, a gas hob and electric oven.
Next to the kitchen is the pale wood four-seater dining suite, with moulded industrial chic chairs. Both have frames that have the look of reclaimed metal, slightly hammered, as if having been done by hand.
The same frame styling is used for the two glass partitions on either side of the entrance to the Tingdene Overstone’s lounge; this room is surely separate from the dining kitchen yet integrates subtly.
The ‘reading room’ enjoys a slightly secluded aspect, owing to the glass partition that divides it from the dining area. The bright orange and dark brown styling – plus the porthole, of course – create styling that sets it apart from the lounge.
Scandinavian styling for the sofa and chair, and a long, low, wall-mounted cabinet under the TV position look lovely. And the two-tone walls are yet another of the Overstone’s outstanding features.
The two bedrooms both have windows as a feature; above the bedhead in both rooms and, in the master bedroom, on each side of the bedhead too.
This room has a beautifully white-tiled en-suite – with the Overstone’s signature feature, a porthole window.
Verdict: This is a park home and holiday lodge of trailblazer style, with lots of elements that combine to create a distinctive home. The porthole windows are amazing and so is the use of bold colours. Who would have thought bright orange chairs and indigo kitchen units would have worked? But they do, and they are among the features that make the Tingdene Overstone a home of immense character.
Plus points:
