Did you know? Many static caravan insurance claims are for accidental damage caused by slips and trips in the shower!
Water and soap on a shiny surface are the perfect ingredients for slips and accidents in the shower. Here are our five handy tips for avoiding costly damage to your static caravan shower tray when scrubbing up!
Slippery times!
Classic clangers and common static caravan insurance claims include trips, slips and dropped shampoo and cleaning bottles in the shower. The average cost of these claims often exceed £1,000 but two claims caused £4,500 of damage after a fall in the shower cracked the tray and wall!
What to do to avoid slips and trips in the shower
1. Slip mats or treads
Introducing non-slip surfaces onto your shower tray is the easiest and most affordable solution to help prevent a slip in the shower.
A shower mat will suck down onto your shower tray to provide a less slippery surface, or adhesive treads or anti-slip stickers can be added to your tray to provide extra grip under wet feet.
2. Bamboo shower mats
These aesthetically pleasing wooden mats are durable, and will not only give you a better surface for standing on to avoid slipping, but they’ll also provide some protection for your shower tray if you accidentally drop a bottle of shampoo or shower gel!
A bamboo shower mat could also give your acrylic shower tray some extra strength.
3. Shower handles
Adding a grab handle or two to your shower will give you something to hold on to when leaving the shower and when the tray is soapy and slippery.
You can even get handles to match your existing bathroom hardware or suction shower handles.
4. Add a shower stool or seat
A shower stool or seat is great if you have mobility issues and also gives you somewhere to sit when showering to avoid a nasty slip. Coupled with a handheld or adjustable shower head, this will mean you can shower safely whilst sitting down and won’t have to move around too much.
There are freestanding stools, corner stools and fixed shower stools in a range of styles available.
5. A shower caddy
There are all kinds of shower candies and organisers for your washing products to keep your shower tray clear of any trip hazards.
A hanging caddy placed near the shower controls, in the corner of the shower, or over the shower door, will keep your bottles close to hand and help to prevent you from dropping them down onto the shower tray and cracking or damaging it.
The importance of static caravan insurance
Remember your static caravan insurance policy gives you that extra peace of mind that all kinds of accidental damage in the bathroom and elsewhere are covered.
