If you’ve owned your static caravan for a number of years – or even bought a second-hand model – lots of holidaying might mean the interior is starting to feel a little tired.
In this article, we look at ways you can breathe new life into your static caravan without breaking the bank with 10 tips and ideas to refresh and spruce up the inside of your static caravan.
Before sprucing up the inside of your holiday caravan it’s worth giving it a good clean and getting rid of any out-of-date accessories or things that are just looking a bit grubby or tired.
It’s amazing how much stuff you can accumulate – particularly in the kitchen and bathroom cupboards. Throw out any food that’s gone over its use-by date and any chipped plates and mugs etc.
1. Refresh your walls with paint or wallpaper
One of the easiest ways to transform the inside of your static caravan is by repainting the walls. Opt for light, neutral colours like whites, creams, or soft pastels to make the space feel more open and airy. If you prefer something bolder, consider creating a feature wall using vibrant colours or stylish wallpaper.
Check with your manufacturer what kind of finish is on your static caravan walls as this will affect the type of paint to use. For example, if you have a wallpaper finish you’ll need to use a primer designed for wallpaper and you won’t need to sand down your caravan walls like you would at home. A local paint specialist should also be able to help with your choice of paint. Just remember to wipe down walls before you start painting.
Wallpapering can add a pop of colour to your static caravan. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is great for caravans since it’s easy to apply and remove. Willerby Holiday Homes recommends applying any new wallpaper on top of the original wallpaper. Again, like painting, give your walls a clean before taking on any decorating.
2. Upgrade your flooring
Replacing the flooring can make a huge difference to the look and feel of your static caravan. Vinyl flooring is a popular option for static caravans as it’s durable, easy to clean, and comes in a wide range of styles, including wood and tile effects. Laminate flooring is another budget-friendly option that adds a modern touch, while plush carpets can instantly make your living space feel more homely.
A new rug or two will also spruce up the inside of your static caravan – particularly in the lounge, as well as mats in the bathroom and by entrance doors.
You can always upgrade your flooring yourself if it’s something you’ve done before at home or are competent, otherwise call in a local carpet fitter or flooring specialist, especially to make sure you get the perfect fit.
Top tip: Opt for durable, slip-resistant flooring in high-traffic areas like external doorways, kitchens and bathrooms.
3. Swap out cupboard doors
Your kitchen is often the heart of your holiday caravan, but after years of use, the cupboard doors can start to look a bit worn out or grubby. Instead of replacing the entire kitchen, why not simply swap out the doors for a fresh look, or even the handles? You can choose sleek, modern styles or go for a rustic, country feel, depending on the overall look you’re aiming for. Just make sure you replace with the same size! Check out sites such as the Kitchen Door Outlet who can make doors for any size. Just get your measurements right.
You could even do the same in the bathroom and bedrooms. If you’re on a tight budget, consider painting or wrapping your existing doors for an instant facelift.
4. Add new appliances
Upgrading your appliances can not only improve the functionality of your caravan but also give it a contemporary look. Compact, energy-efficient appliances are ideal for static caravans, especially if space is limited. Whether it’s a new microwave, fridge, or hob, modern appliances can give your caravan a fresh feel without the need for a full kitchen renovation. Plus there are lots of gadgets to either make life easier or cook up meals quickly. We’re thinking cooker alternatives like air fryers, coffee machines and tabletop dishwashers!
Top tip: Look for space-saving appliances that offer multiple functions, like an air fryer and slow cooker.
5. Invest in new soft furnishings
New curtains, cushions, and throws are some of the easiest and most affordable ways to update the look of your static caravan. Choose fabrics that reflect your personal style, whether that’s bright and colourful patterns for a playful feel or soft neutrals for a calming, relaxing atmosphere.
Rugs are another great accessory, adding warmth and texture to your living areas while also protecting your flooring and keepoing your feet warm in the colder months.
6. Upgrade lighting
Good lighting can completely transform the ambience of your holiday caravan. Consider swapping out old, dated light fixtures for modern, energy-efficient LED lights. You can also add soft, warm lighting with floor or table lamps to create a cosy atmosphere in the evenings.
For a stylish update, consider adding under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen or under shelves and using fairy lights to give bedrooms a magical touch, particularly for young children.
Make sure any electrical work is carried out by a professional.
7. Install new blinds or curtains
Old, faded curtains can make a caravan feel dreary. Installing new blinds or curtains is a simple way to bring a fresh look to your static caravan. Roller blinds or nets are practical for controlling light and maintaining privacy, while new curtains in a fabric that complements your decor can add a touch of luxury.
You might also want to think about thermal curtains to keep your static caravan warm in you like caravanning in the winter months and black out blinds in the bedrooms. Your park operator will likely have contacts who specialise in caravan blinds.
8. Reupholster furniture
If your static caravan’s seating is starting to show its age, reupholstering it is a fantastic way to give it a second lease of life.
Choose a durable fabric that matches your new interior design, and you’ll instantly modernise the space. If reupholstering sounds like too big a task, consider covering your furniture with stylish slipcovers or using throws for an affordable alternative. Look for a specialist caravan upholstery company or ask your park operator for suggestions.
9. Bring the outside in with plants
Plants are a fantastic way to add life and colour to your caravan’s interior. Small, low-maintenance houseplants like succulents or herbs can be placed on countertops or shelves. If you’re worried about maintenance, artificial plants can provide the same vibrant effect without the upkeep.
10. Personalise your space with accessories
Finally, don’t forget to add a personal touch! Display photos of family holidays, favourite ornaments, or pieces of artwork that make your static caravan feel like yours. Small decorative items like vases, ornaments, mirrors or even a feature clock can add style and charm.
Remember if you’re hanging pictures, or putting up shelving or mirrors your static caravan walls are very thin and you won’t be able to drill holes etc. Use things like Command Strips to secure frames etc.
Top tip: Look for multifunctional furniture like ottomans with storage to maximise space inside your caravan while adding to your decor.
Sprucing up your static caravan doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. By making a few simple changes like repainting walls, upgrading soft furnishings, and adding personal touches, you can create a refreshed and welcoming space that feels like a true home-away-from-home.
