2013 Pemberton Serena static caravan proves its worth

Our expert reviewer Janet Lumb delivers her verdict on the 2013 Pemberton Serena static caravan.

I think Pemberton tend to understate what they are offering. They are known as a more expensive manufacturer, but does the customer know what comes with that price tag as standard?

Introducing the Serena

The range consists of the 39ft by 12ft two-bedroomed and the 42ft by 13ft two- or three-bedroomed versions. Prices range from approx £50,000 – £58,000 ex-works retail. In case you are one of those who think of Pemberton ranges as safe but rather old-fashioned, it is you who are out of date! The Serena says goodbye to that idea. Looking at the three-bedroomed Serena, I was impressed.

Let’s look at it in detail…

Construction

Get a load of this insulation – 60mm fibreglass insulation in walls and under the floor. 150mm fibreglass insulation in the roof – most heat loss is through the roof. A pre-galvanised twin axle chassis comes as standard too, promising many trouble-free years with your holiday home.

Country living

With French doors at the end, the Serena has joined the now extensive club of holiday homes with an opening front. Throughout the living space of the caravan it is light and airy and home-style. Carefully chosen colours are gentle shades of beiges, cream, mocha and blue. Freestanding furniture includes a three-seater and a two-seater settee.

Country kitchen

The cream theme carries through into the kitchen, which is open plan to the dining and living areas. Standard features of this well-equipped kitchen include externally vented cooker extractor hood, inset five burner gas hob with electric ignition, microwave, large integrated fridge-freezer, and large 900mm kitchen worktop. A slim-line dishwasher is an option, as is a washer-dryer. This is a workable and large kitchen.

Bed and bath

The three bedrooms are not large. The twins have the extra foot width to play with in this 13ft version. The master is more limited inevitably, compared with the lovely 12ft wide room in the two-bedroomed version, which has even the luxury of a window seat. However, the master in the three-bedroomed does have a good walk-in wardrobe, as well as an en suite shower room. A ‘house bathroom’ off the inner hall is another shower room with chrome ladder radiator.

You can personalise the Serena by having a leather lounge suite for example. If you choose this way forward, you will not be able to have a sofa-bed. A space-saving fold-under bed could be a boon, if you need the two twin rooms just for one person each.

Who’s it for?

Those who appreciate quality, and want to stick with the same holiday home for years to come – park permitting! Those who almost bought a country cottage then decided on a holiday park unit, but still want the cottage feel.

Our verdict

When Pemberton add good interior design to good quality, they get my vote! If you can stretch your budget just a little further, you can also have the very sturdy and attractive timber cladding option, and then you will really blend into the countryside.
