The Willerby Cameo static caravan is new to the company’s model range for 2013 and we had a chance to explore it at the Spring Caravan and Camping Show at NEC earlier in the year.
Willerby has reviewed its design parameters over the last year and Cameo certainly offers something a little bit different. An open plan living/dining and kitchen is to be expected in a single unit in order to create space and light, enhanced by the optional Outlook doors on the front aspect.
The soft furnishings are Hessian type upholstery with a hint of coffee coloured liqueur in the weave, matched with a cocoa coloured carpet and floral curtains with teal, gold and green featuring. The sofa converts to a sofa bed and in the model we saw there was a freestanding armchair.
We especially liked the quarter circle style footrest with its lift up lid; just the place to hide the newspapers when unexpected visitors arrive and there’s plenty of room for them to join you for a chat on the sofa.
The focal point of the room is the electric fire set in the low level room divider between the living are and kitchen.
The kitchen had some optional equipment fitted including a washer dryer and a dishwasher; there were also plenty of drawers and cupboards, a double oven with a grill and a single stainless steel sink unit. The vinyl effect floor is practical and a side aspect single door leads to the exterior.
The dining area certainly surprised us; for a start it seats six people at the modern rectangular table with contemporary chrome legs; we like tables that can accommodate the same numbers of guests that the bedrooms sleep.
We also liked the bench style seating arrangement and cube seats. If one of us hadn’t dropped a pen then we’d have missed the contemporary basket storage system under the bench seat and they really made the most of the space available.
The master bedroom sparkles with iridescence due to the choice of fabric for the curtains, bed throw and luxurious looking padded headboard.
The king-size beds lifts up to offer storage to complement the over bed storage and the very decent wardrobe. A nice design touch is the use of the window recess as a vanity unit. Nocturnal visits are catered for with an en-suite lavatory and a small hand basin. The twin bedroom has the same colour scheme as the main bedroom but the layout can be flexible.
The bathroom in this model was configured with a bath and over bath shower and we did like the tile effect feature wall by the bath. It’s a narrow room so the bath may not suit those who claim a lot of elbow room. You should be able to bath or supervise children’s bath time without too much discomfort though.
The standard exterior finish is aluminium cladding but an environmental green is available.
Prospective purchasers have a wide range of options available to personalise their unit. Do you want to go basic or do you want enhanced comfort levels? If you plan to spend a lot of time in your Cameo, then you may want to consider a few extras, like central heating and double glazing, for sure and it would generate more revenue for you, the owner.

We had a cameo delivered to site at the end of January and have so many things wrong with it that are still not sorted. Not just minor things. There is a slope in the floor by the cupboards which no one can seem to rectify. The vinyl flooring has got to be replaced. Walls are out of line and doors won’t close. The underlay needs replacing throughout as they use recycled underlay which is full of hard lumps of plastic. The cooker hood is all marked and needs replacing. Two internal doors are marked and need replacing. The bedroom curtains didn’t match and they had to be replaced. Upvc windows that were badly finished off and some wouldn’t open properly. They are due to return on 30th June to put things right. This is their last chance as it’s their 3rd chance as well and if no luck then the van can go back.
