Outdoor activities to try on your static caravan holidays

Holidaying at your static caravan holiday is the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind but also to explore and embrace the great outdoors. Whether you’re into adrenaline-fuelled adventures or relaxing activities, there’s often something for everyone.

Here we’ve put together some fantastic outdoor activities to try during your next getaway at your holiday caravan. We already know walking and days out are popular caravan holiday activities but there are lots of fun things to do to get outside and enjoy the local area or around your holiday park.

Outdoor activities to enjoy at your static caravan

1. Cycling

Many holiday parks are surrounded by stunning countryside, woodland trails or coastal paths, making them ideal for cycling. Take your own bike or hire one locally to explore scenic trails, quiet country lanes, or dedicated cycle routes. Cycling is also a great way to stay active while taking in the beautiful surroundings and you could always leave the car at your caravan and explore the local area on two wheels instead.

E-bikes are also growing in popularity and are great for that extra bit of pedal power! When cycling make sure you always wear a helmet and do think about where you’re going to store your bike or bikes. Some holiday parks will have secure storage or you might want to invest in a sturdy outdoor storage box or shed which can be securely locked.

2. Fishing

If you love a peaceful pastime, fishing is a great way to unwind during your static caravan holiday. Many holiday parks have their own fishing lakes, or you can find nearby rivers, canals, or coastal spots – just check if you need a rod fishing licence first. Busy coastal locations might also run fishing trips out to sea.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned angler, fishing is a fantastic way to relax and appreciate nature, and it’s great for your overall well-being. Not only will it help increase your vitamin D levels, time spent outdoors fishing will help reduce cortisol levels too, which is often associated with stress.

3. Paddleboarding

For a fun water-based activity, why not try paddleboarding!

You don’t need to own a paddleboard, many coastal and lakeside locations will have boards to hire, or even run organised trips, as the popularity of paddleboarding has grown around the UK.

Paddleboarding is a great full-body workout and a wonderful way to enjoy the water, whether you’re gliding along a calm lake or canal, or exploring sheltered coves, on your own or in a group.

Many people find paddleboarding a peaceful and restorative outdoor activity but like fishing do check if you need a licence before hitting the water. Go Paddling is a great place to find out more about “Paddle Points” and paddleboard courses.

4. Kayaking

Kayaking is another excellent way to explore the waterways near your holiday caravan park. You can paddle over tranquil lakes, scenic rivers, or along the coast – again on your own or with family or friends. Many holiday parks are located near kayaking hotspots, with rental facilities and guided tours available, or fun kayaking games. Again, check the waterways regulations before paddling on rivers, lakes or canals.

You’ll also need to check if you need a licence to go kayaking on certain waterways. You can find out more at www.paddleuk.org.uk.

5. Wild swimming

If you love swimming, why not try wild swimming? The UK is full of beautiful natural swimming spots, from hidden pools to crystal-clear rivers.

Be sure to check the safety of the location, follow local guidelines, and take necessary precautions before taking a dip such as an open water tow float or buoy. If you’re trying wild swimming for the first time stay close to the shore to start with to see how you react to cold water and don’t swim alone.

The health benefits of swimming in cold water can soothe muscle aches, relieve depression and boost the immune system.

The website www.wildswimming.co.uk has tips for wild swimming beginners, from the kit you’ll need to some great open water swimming spots in the UK. A dry robe will cover you up whilst keeping you warm and dry after a dip in the cold water.

6. Hiking

The UK is home to many incredible walking routes, from gentle coastal strolls to challenging hikes in the hills and mountains. Many holiday caravan parks are close to fantastic hiking trails, allowing you to explore breathtaking landscapes, spot wildlife, or simply enjoy the fresh air. And you don’t need expensive kit to go hiking – just some decent walking boots or shoes, a rucksack and a walking jacket to protect you from the elements.
