The results are in from our latest community poll to find out how many static caravanners prepare their holiday caravan or lodge for winter.
Our winter weather precautions state that Leisuredays policyholders must always drain down between November 1st and March 15th, if they’re not using their static caravan or holiday lodge.
Here are the results…
After more than 200 votes, we can reveal that almost three-quarters of voters said they would carry out the all-important task of draining down their static caravan for winter, with 51 per cent planning on draining down and removing their valuables, bedding, food etc..
Fifteen per cent of voters leave their static caravan winter preparations to their park owner – many do offer a draining down service for a charge.
Ten per cent of static caravanners told us they continue to use their holiday caravan during the winter months.
Only two people (one per cent) just lock up their caravan and leave it without making any winter plans!
Your comments…
It was pleasing to read many comments about people draining down their holiday caravan every time they leave whilst continuing to use it in winter.
Tom Owen, Sarah Waterworth, Barry, Roger, and Mark Hill did just that.
“We use our caravan in winter but drain down and leave the heating on frost stat every time we leave,” commented Tom.
Mrs Pat Muir pays £75 for her park operator Haven to drain down her unit and then reconnect it at the start of the new season.
“I also turn our water off every time we leave the van,” she added.
Michael Saunders uses his caravan in winter but still makes winter preparations.
“After leaf fall I clear gutters,” he said. “I have the heating serviced and leave on frost stat. Before leaving in winter, also drain down water as an extra precaution.”
