The 2013 Carnaby Cascade Aspect is a range of four basic static caravans with prices to suit all budgets. All the models are 12ft wide and have central lounges with internal lengths ranging from 30ft to 37ft. The model we’re looking at here is the Carnaby Aspect 342B, a static which features an unusual layout with the two bedrooms situated at opposite ends – perfect for noisey guests!
As you walk in the master bedroom is sited to your right whereas the second bedroom is at the rear left-hand corner. In the front corner of the home, forward of the second bedroom, is a small toilet and washroom, whilst the main shower room is situated next to the master bedroom.
The home sits on a painted galvanised chassis with pre-galvanised corner steadies but there are a number of other options available including a ‘fusion’ fully galvanised one. As always, we think this offers the best option especially if the home is to be sited near the coast where salt spray can cause havoc to steel structures. Similarly, although aluminium cladding is standard, UPVC can be supplied as an alternative. The fibreglass wall insulation comes as standard at a fairly basic 25mm thick, making it suitable for summer holidays only, but there is a 50mm option also available.
The kitchen directly faces the entrance with the lounge area to the left. Where the two areas join is a dog-leg which adds some interest to the overall look of the area especially as the wall separating the two runs from floor to ceiling rather than just to elbow height. Also worth noting: the ceiling in the lounge is vaulted but elsewhere it is flat. At the end of the home, adjoining the lounge is the second bedroom which comes complete with twin beds.
As you might expect in a basic static caravan such as this, the number of appliances in the kitchen is fairly minimal comprising as they do a single door gas cooker and grill with a four burner hob and an externally vented fume extractor. But we should also mention that there are a number of options including a microwave, integrated dishwasher, and a choice of several fridge/freezer combinations. There is also a five bottle wine rack at high level which we felt was a nice touch. Work top space is however fairly limited.
The focal point in the lounge area is the gas fire opposite the bench seat, the centre one of which is an occasional double bed. To the left of the fire is the dining area which comprises a free standing table and four chairs. Above the table is a Velux roof light.
In the corner, to the right of the fire is the caravan’s toilet compartment whilst adjoining it is the second bedroom. This has two small divan beds with a common headboard and two wall cupboards above it plus a small wardrobe. Bearing in mind that this is a static caravan we felt the room was adequate to the needs of the owner.
At the other end of the caravan is the shower room. This is a good size with a deep rectangular shower compartment. It also has a washbasin but no toilet. Adjoining it is the master bedroom which has a double bed, again with a common headboard and wall cupboards above it, plus a wardrobe.
Verdict
The Cascade Aspect can be described as a basic starter model for an owner who wants to test the water to see if static caravan ownership is for them. It doesn’t have a lot of standard fittings and furniture but does have a good range of options including wet central heating with thermostatically controlled radiator valves. This coupled with an increase in the thickness of the insulation to 50mm would almost certainly make it suitable for summer and winter holidays alike.
