The sun shone for the The Lawns Caravan Extravaganza and Cottingham Parks Caravan and Lodge show both of which are annual events open to the public, held at Cottingham in East Yorkshire over the first weekend of September to introduce the new season’s models.
The Caravan Extravaganza is held at The Lawns which is the part of the residential complex of the University of Hull and the Cottingham Parks Caravan and Lodge show is the newly branded show previously referred to as the “Golf Club show” which runs at the same time as the Caravan Extravaganza. Both shows are a platform to display model ranges and introduce new models of caravan holiday homes lodges to the public, trade and press.
The crowds arrived in droves and the car parks were quickly filled at The Lawns. A brass band entertained those who picnicked on the grass, soaking up the precious rays of late summer sun, face painters and balloon modellers amused the children and the catering stands were kept busy.

Tingdene’s new Escape lodge certainly caught our eye and we couldn’t resist a trip up the spiral staircase to the roof terrace from where we could see the huge stand occupied by Willerby Holiday Homes where a new lodge was displayed, the Ridgewood (pictured below) which certainly has an interesting looking innovative exterior and plenty of features including a loft space.
The Burgundy 32ft x 10ft made by Swift and pictured below, we thought was very good value for money even with optional extras.
Pemberton’s new lodge, the Rivendale was unveiled and has an appealing layout with a sun room and French doors from the master bedroom onto a terrace. (Pictured below).
Cottingham Parks Caravan and Lodge show was well organised this year and fourteen manufacturers had stands there. Victory Leisure Homes introduced the Versailles 40ft x 20ft two bedroom lodge with a utility room; it’s a cracking holiday home (pictured below).
Regal Holiday Homes introduced its latest edition the Inspiration 38ft x 12ft with two bedrooms; we were certainly impressed by the window configuration in the living area and by the bold use of regal purple upholstery.
Atlas Leisure Homes showed the contemporary Jasmine Lodge 2 which had an American style fridge freezer in the well appointed kitchen.
The feedback from manufacturers at both shows was positive with good interest reported not only from the public, but from the trade and press attendees. With VAT due to rise in January, perhaps people had decided to bring their purchase date forward but there will still be the opportunity to negotiate your deal after the rise.
Dates for the 2011 shows are 3rd – 4th September; let’s hope for more sunny weather!
